Chuck Brown is well known for the driving Go-Go beats and heavy percussion in his songs and live performances. People who really know Chuck Brown, however, know that he was an incredible blues and jazz lover. Fortunately, he recorded quite a bit of music showing his love for the two.

Celebrating the classic mambo, Latin jazz and cha-cha of Tito Puente, Cal Tjader, Poncho Sanchez and Mark Levine, Mambo Combo has its compass set toward Cuba. Stocked with an all-star cast of Cincinnati-area musicians from the bands Tropicoso, ZUMBA, Mambo Diablo, Salsa Renegades and the Blue Wisp Big Band, Mambo Combo has also adapted a roster of compelling American jazz standards into the Latin jazz idiom.

Experience a concert built around four vintage National resonator instruments that have been professionally restored to their original playing and sounding condition by their owner, Bill Hulsizer. Six celebrated Cincinnati guitarists take turns with a rhythm section throughout the night, rotating solos, duos and small combinations that let each instrument speak in a different setting.  

Among the evening’s discoveries will be an adaptation of a never-recorded ragtime composition by Artie Matthews of the Cincinnati Cosmopolitan School, arranged for all six guitarists.

The Love of Country Jazz Quintet: Cowboy Bossa Nova is an “open marriage” between the classic country & western swing songwriting of Hank Williams, Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and more; and the Brazilian rhythms and deeply lyrical compositions of Antonio Carlos Jobim. With a full-length recording in progress, this new passion project for guitarist and vocalist Brad Myers will bring a smile to your face, proving that timeless classic songs are not beholden to the limits of genre, and a good song is a good song. Period.
