Matinee Musicale: Valerie Eickhoff Thrilling Mezzo Soprano – American Debut

Winner of 2022 German SWR Young Opera Stars Competition

– Awarded the Emmerich Smola Prize, selected by the audience – only six young top-class singers are invited to compete for this award (with audience approval considered to be the “acid test” for a successful singing career by Smola)

– Also awarded the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie orchestra prize, selected by members of the orchestra – as part of this award, Eickhoff will appear in concert with the Deutsche Radio Philharmonie this coming season.

Valerie Eickhoff took her first singing lessons at age 10.  She graduated with top honors from the Robert Schumann University in Düsseldorf, Germany. Various scholarships (including the International Meistersinger Academy, Richard Wagner  Association Düsseldorf, Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “LiveMusicNow”, Horst and Gretl Will Foundation, Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation) as well as master classes offered the young singer the opportunity for further musical education and training.

Her repertoire includes important roles such as Prince Orlovsky in Die Fledermaus,  Lisetta in Haydn’s Il mondo della luna, Angelina in Rossini’s La Cenerentola and Cherubino

in Le nozze di Figaro.  She currently is a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. In May 2021 she made her debut as Rosina in a new production of Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, among other roles.

In addition to opera, Eickhoff works closely with pianists in the field of art songs and recently appeared as part of the Düsseldorf  Schumann Festival. She also recently drew attention in internationally renowned competitions such as New Voices and the  Glyndebourne Opera Cup. In 2021 she won 3rd prize in the singing division of the ARD music competition, Germany’s largest international classical music competition, and this year was Winner of the German SWR Young Opera Stars Competition.
